I love that you wrote in that Joe was the only person that Patrick ever really considered apologizing to. When I was reading your introduction to Patrick, I was literally thinking "Wouldn't he apologize?" but you fit it into the narrative in such a way that it's so believable. I can totally see this happening.
As per your post about the nutjob yesterday and then this character study today, I guess that the most element a writer needs is realism. Whether the fic is set in an AU or in a past canon-based setting, it needs to be realistic to how they would act - or at least be believable.
I think that's why I like your stories so much. They open up little doors of opportunity in my mind and make me think, 'well, it could have happened like that!'
