Okay then - one slightly off-topic ramble coming up! Like I said, the topic was: "The greatest need of a person is to be needed." I basically wrote that people in general needed to be reminded that they are relevant, important and can make a difference to someone specifically or to the world. I said that it makes them feel proud and happy to know that they mean something to someone and that they are appreciated and that the feeling of being needed or loved or even just wanted is something that no one should live without. I said that people will go to incredible lengths just to get that feeling and that they will endure many things.
Now, a writer depends on feedback for more than just that feeling of being needed or appreciated. Writers need that feedback to know what kind of job they're doing and exactly what kind of impact or impression they're making on others. Is their work any good? What areas can they improve in? What parts do people like best? Some writers depend wholly on feedback for the appreciation too; some write for hours, sometimes putting off more important things, and then ask for comments and most writers post their work and show it to others to get that feedback. A lot of writers ask for comments because it shows that they're relevant and that they're appreciated and that their work is not worthless and that they're not writing for nothing.
So basically, writers need to be needed too. I think this is really going to encourage me to comment more because it's really discouraging when you post something you're proud of and it's barely even recognized (or at least you feel that way). Also, it's just a nice thing to do. :D
I'm with you on that wish! I would totally love to write some Patroh fics (or any FOB fic in general), but I stay away from it because I'm afraid I'll get the characterizations wrong or something. >< I admire the band a lot and I'm afraid I won't do them justice. It's really an irrational fear, I think, but it's a fear nonetheless. I'm trying my best to get over it. I think if I just go at it with reckless abandon or something, I'll manage, hehe.
'Til then, I'll do my best to encourage others to read/write more Joe/Patrick fics. :) It's so necessary.

Gosh, this comment is long.
