Wow, dude - thank you! That's high praise indeed. I'm really, really glad you're enjoying it (and yeah, I say that to everyone who comments, but it's true).
I honestly see these two as being the ones within the band who would be capable of a happy, normal, functional relationship. If you were to go through group shots of the band and compare the ones of Pete and Patrick interacting with the ones of Joe and Patrick, the ones with Joe look so much more natural and less staged. And they have pretty complimentary personalities - Joe's laid back enough to deal with Patrick's temper and wouldn't mind cleaning up after the messy little sod all the time! :)
And yeah - I never wanted to make Patrick's mom seem evil, which is why we got to see Joe interacting with her. The rest was all Patrick's pretty biased POV.
